Maintaining your ideal weight is highly significant for quite a few reasons, from being self-confident, to feeling well, and staying healthy. We always hear about diets that work for lasting weight loss (or, at least, claim to), but it’s difficult to point out the quick, easy, good, safe, and effective ones. That’s quite the checklist of benefits to go through, but the diets of our dreams really need to motivate us from all points of view, from getting started to sticking with it until the end.

You don’t need to go through an extreme, crazy, or illegal diet that involves starvation or spend thousands on highly-publicized diet programs, supplements, or other products. There are plenty of free options that have been tried and tested through numerous studies. What are the simplest diets that work for lasting weight results? Look into our list and see which one actually works the best for you. For additional assistance, consult our guide on How to Lose Weight Fast and Safely to effectively combine diets with exercise.

Diet Plans that Work

All too often we fall prey to fad dieting, leading to a crash and burn course that will not only result in absurd amounts of money spent, but also in poor results in the long run. We see a celebrity every now and then on our favorite talk show (no offense, Dr Oz) that suddenly looks great after a week following a miracle diet. You should clearly know that A-list celebs not only have access to personal trainers but also nutritionists, cooks, and other luxuries that I guarantee won’t come cheap.

No matter how many reviews you read (many of which might be paid) on the diet, program, product or whatever else is being marketed, there are low chances of it working without being proven scientifically. Nevertheless, there are a few popular, real, natural diet plans that men and women from all over the world swear by, and that also have research to support claims. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so be prepared to put in at least a few weeks of work to see results.

What you do need to keep in mind is not to judge a book by its cover. In other words, don’t go for the top diet plan from a quick online search, a finely-wrapped over the counter or prescription pill that promises wonders, or any other diet plan that is not backed up by scientific research. Aside from your diet, you should always make sure that your liquid intake is high, with plenty of detox shakes, smoothies or juices, as well as unsweetened teas, soup, and water in abundance.

1. Rosemary Conley Diet

The National Health Service (NHS) and British Dietetic Association (BDA) claim that the popular Rosemary Conley diet in the UK provides a healthy balance for losing weight. It involves not only following a diet plan but also maintaining exercise and controlling portions.

mediterranean diet

2. Mediterranean Diet

Mediterranean cuisine is not only downright delicious, but it is also amazing for your health. As one of the diet plans that work, the Mediterranean Diet involves consuming olive oil, fish, nuts, grains, veggies, fruits, and beans, among others.

Diets that Work for Women

Quite a few diets that work for women also work for men, but these three are some of the most popular among ladies (and also among the most effective).

3. HCG Diet

Although this diet is strict, results are certain for most people who do this diet properly.  It is reported that on average women lose 1/2 – 1 pound per day.  This diet encourages eating all whole foods of protein, veggies, and fruit.  It helps people establish other healthy habits as well.

4. 1500 Calorie Diet

While this isn’t a specific diet, but rather a general guideline, the 1500 calorie diet focuses on the classic, fool-proof rule of counting calories. Research shows that 1500 calories are a healthy amount for the average individual, so consider keeping track of your calories more seriously.

5. Volumetrics

Volumetrics follows a pretty simple rule that is largely printed on the eponymous book written by Barbara Rolls, PhD, and Robert A. Barnett: ‘Feel full on fewer calories’. It focuses on portion sizes, suppressing cravings and counting calories.

flexitarian diet

6. Flexitarian Diet

The Flexitarian Diet, designed for (casual) vegetarians, works for weight loss and gaining optimal health. You have access to an abundance of delicious recipes, while remaining flexible the whole way.

Diets that Work Fast

Time is of the essence, so it’s natural for us to want to lose weight as quickly as possible. Do keep in mind that most super short diet plans (along the words of ‘lose X pounds in 5 days!’) will not have long-lasting results. Their lack of long-term effectiveness made us exclude them from our list.

7. Health Management Resources (HMR) Program

The HMR Diet is ranked as #1 best fast weight-loss diet and the 2nd best weight loss diets by U.S. News & World Report. It is widely based on replacing meals and making some lifestyle changes for the long run.

8. Biggest Loser Diet

The Biggest Loser Diet isn’t the fastest one on our list (as it requires 6 weeks of working), but it will support your general health and lower the risks of developing life-threatening diseases.

9. Green Tea Extract

Green tea is known for having a wide range of health benefits, so it’s natural for green tea extract to be encouraged. It is packed with antioxidants and can aid you in burning fat, but don’t forget about the two key components to weight loss success: exercise and healthy eating.

10. Glucomannan

Glucomannan is a dietary fiber that is natural and can be dissolved in water. It is low in calories, promotes satiety, and lowers protein absorption, as opposed to other soluble fibers.
